150 The Mayor
6" x 6" oil on gessobord
There's a lake nearby that I love to walk around and if I'm lucky I'll find this beautiful bird on the shore or in a hiding place. My husband and I have nicknamed this beauty The Mayor. I was trying to honor our lakeside, feathered friend with this but I ended up disappointed with my effort.
This painting was a huge struggle for me and the single reason I lost my painting mojo this summer. Sigh. I feel better now that this is out there. I went with a limited color palette, unusual for me, with new-to-me oil paints, and tried a completely new subject. Is it surprising that I might not like how it turned out?! Switching 2-3 variables is never advisable. I know better. I really do. Ugh. I must remind myself to only change one thing at a time.
I started this painting before all of the abstracts came and switched to those after being completely discouraged by this one. With some distance from it, I see that it's silly to let a little bird painting get the better of me... but that's the truth. Honesty and transparency in art struggles... yep, you can count on me.
